ABOUT US

Perry Meridian Wrestling started in 1973 and has a very proud and successful history as a school and club. There are programs at the high school and middle school, and a 501c3 club which is a member of Indiana State Wrestling Association (ISWA) and USA Wrestling.

Perry Meridian Wrestling has only had three different head coaches; Phil Strader, Jim Tonte and Matt Schoettle. Phil Strader got the ball rolling in 1973 and remained the head coach until retiring after the 95'-96' season. Jim Tonte assumed the head coach role with the 96'-97' season and remained the head coach until 2015. Current Head Coach Matt Schoettle, took over the program with an impressive 3rd place finish in the state in the 15'-16' season.

Our high school program has a long winning tradition in Indiana. Former Falcon wrestler and state qualifier, Matt Schoettle, is entering his 7th year at the helm of our great program and his 26th year as a coach with Perry Meridian High School. Coach Schoettle's career record as a coach at Perry Meridian is 545-55! We are 4x Indiana State Team Champions, 7x Indiana State Team Runner-Ups, 8x Team State top 10 place winners, and 7x Team State Qualifiers. We have had 15 individual state champions, 18 individual state runner-ups, 58 individual top eight place winners, and a total of 149 individual state qualifiers.

Our middle school program has also had tremendous success and is currently led by former Falcon wrestler, Nick Walpole. Coach Walpole was a State Champion for Perry Meridian High School and an NCAA DII National Champion for the University of Indianapolis. There is not a better middle school coaching staff around, and this is one of the main reasons for our success at the high school level. Having been Middle School State Champions numerous times we take great pride in our future Falcon High School wrestlers!

Perry Meridian Wrestling Club is a not-for-profit 501c3 organization and a great way for our youth to get involved in wrestling. The club is a member of the ISWA and USA Wrestling organizations and has been recognized as a Top 50 club in the United States by USA Wrestling. The club also has a long tradition of success with numerous Freestyle, Greco-Roman, and Folkstyle Team State Championship, Individual State Champions, Place Winners, as well as USA All-Americans, and National Champions. If you want to get involved with the great sport of wrestling, you won't find a better club to be involved with!
